Beschreibung: The module Corporate Communications combines actual research in public relations and corporate communications with applied case studies. The main question is why organizations aim at achieving communicative goals like reputation, legitimation or image and how they are accomplishing their goals by communicative means. We will take into account the rapidly changing media landscape which moves corporate communications towards an organizational enabler of communicative messages across diverse content platforms. Since the module is part of our International Semester it will be taught in English and encourages students to apply comparative research methods and international case studies in crossnational teams.
English Title: Corporate Communications
English Abstract: Communication departments and newsrooms have turned into organizational enablers of communicative messages across diverse content platforms. This module explores strategic communication in a broad understanding. It is part of the Minor “Journalism and Communication Management” and taught in English.

Learning goals: You can understand and apply core concepts of corporate communications like rhetorics, storytelling, and branding and their applications in different arenas like internal and external communication. We will also cover new developments in media like generative artificial intelligence and its effects on the field. In your group project you will need to apply all your skills to develop a communication strategy to solve a communication challenge.

Methods/exam: You will work in small teams to prepare international case studies on corporate communications. You will have several individual online quizzes covering the fundamentals. You will solve applied case studies in class based upon theory and research. In the second half of the semester, you will work in group projects for a client and/or research problem and deliver a presentation and research report about the topic.

The course is part of the Minor "Journalism and Communication Management" and is offered in English language. Students will be a mix of exchange students and resident German students.
